Rivers Govt. Lauds Relations Among Religious Groups

by Our Reporter

The Rivers Government has commended the harmonious relationship existing among various religious organizations in the state, urging the faithful to always promote peace.

Mr George Feyii, the Secretary to the State Government, made the commendation on Thursday in Port Harcourt when he received a 15-man delegation of the Muslim community in the state.

He particularly commended the leadership of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) for exhibiting maturity and for advocating tolerance among the Muslim faithful.

Feyii expressed the optimism that the Ramadan period would usher in a new culture of friendliness among Muslims and Christians.

He, however, said that the state government had constituted a committee to look into the perennial conflict between some communities and Fulani herdsmen, with a view to stopping it.

Speaking, Alhaji Nasir Uhor, the leader of the delegation, said that the visit was in continuation of the NSCIA’s familiarisation visits to government leaders across the country.

Uhor, who is the Vice President-General of NSCIA, said that during such visits, special prayers were offered for the nation, particularly during the month of Ramadan.

He thanked the state government for its support to the council and commended its efforts toward the maintenance of peace in the state.
