Since the Rivers State APC suffered a crushing defeat during the April 11, 2015 Governorship Election, the party and her candidate have taken solace in lies and fruitless propaganda. We were therefore not surprised when the party’s chairman, Mr Davies Ikanya released yet another propaganda-inflicted statement claiming that Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike is spending his last days in office. This is taking pedestrian comedy to an all-time low.
Mr Ikanya whose notoriety for multiple-speak is known to all, was quoted in the past as saying that Governor Wike would not resign as Minister of State for Education. When Governor Wike resigned, he told the media that Governor Wike would not win the PDP governorship ticket and when Governor Wike did, Ikanya said that Governor Wike would not win the April 11 election. When April 11 came and Governor Wike won, Ikanya and his paymaster Amaechi ran from one court to another attempting to purchase an injunction to stop his swearing-in. When that failed, Ikanya and his party said that Governor Wike would be sacked in three months. Governor Wike has spent about four months in office clearing the Rivers APC mess while Ikanya and other APC leaders have fled to self-imposed exile.
Ikanya and the Rivers APC cannot be taken seriously. The Rivers people didn’t take them seriously on April 11 and will never take them seriously.
The Rivers State APC made so much noise before heading to the tribunal but on getting to the tribunal tendered no evidence to substantiate their claims. Instead, they chose to rely on misguided fellows who were never anywhere close to the polling units and had no documentary evidence to prove the wild and frivolous allegations made by their party.
After the conclusion of Rivers APC wild goose chase, INEC opened her defence tendering concrete documentary evidence supported by INEC field staff who conducted the elections. The facts are fully in the public domain.
Governor Wike will spend his constitutionally approved four year-term as mandated by the people of Rivers State on April 11. The antics of the Rivers APC have proved ineffective, but it is their constitutional right to delude themselves and their few supporters.
