Sen. Emmanuel Bwacha in Taraba on Monday said that he had earmarked N20 million as scholarship to assist 200 indigent students from the five Local Government Areas of his senatorial district.
Bwacha, representing Taraba South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, said at a town hall meeting in Takum, Takum Local Government Area that he had already released N5 million.
He added that another N9 million was disbursed to families of nine PDP youths, who died in an accident on their way to attend a party function in Jalingo last year.
The senator said besides his legislative role, it was also his social responsibility to assist his people to solve their educational challenges with a view to checking social vices among the youths.
He explained that the aim of the quarterly town hall meeting; being rotated rotating among the five local government areas, was to enable him brief his people on his role in the senate.
Bwacha said it was also an opportunity for him to know their needs requiring his intervention.
Also commenting on the importance of the forum, the Zonal Chairman of PDP in the area, Mr Andetarang Erammae, challenged other political office holders to emulate Bwacha.
NAN reports that the town hall meeting attracted most of the political office holders both elected and appointed and other stakeholders in the zone.
Most of those, who spoke at the occasion pleaded with the senator and all others representing the zone in the national assembly to lobby for the construction of a bridge across the River Benue.
The bridge; they said would link Taraba through Ibi to Plateau and Nassarawa and improve the social and economic well being of the people. (NAN)
