El-Kanemi stated that Borno State accommodates everyone and does not segregate base on people’s religious beliefs, saying that Christians in the state have been giving their pride of place
The visibly elated Monarch was quick to tell the visiting President of Christian Association of Nigeria, ( CAN) Reverend Samson Ayokunle that Christians are occupying key offices in his Emirate Council and promised to sustain it .
Speaking at his place in Maiduguri the Borno State Capital, the Shehu of Borno emphasized the need for religious tolerance amongst adherents of the country’s two main religion- Christians and Muslims, noting that religious leaders must do more to ensure peace in their domain.
” Borno is the home of Islamic Education in Nigeria, nonetheless, due to our caring and acoomodating disposition, some of my red -cap chiefs are Christians and I enjoy working with them . I have village heads who are Christians and the District Head of Chibok which part of Borno Emirate is also a Christian. ” Shehu of Borno said
The Shehu of Borno added that he has also sponsored some of his domestic staffs on Christian pilgrimage to Jerusalem with a view to enhancing their religious beliefs .
Pointing in the direction of one his staff who is a christian, the Shehu of Borno said: ” I sponsored him to Jerusalem and some of the security operatives working here who are christians have also been employed by me after their retirement from service.
On the decade long Boko haram insurgency, the Borno Monach assure that with current efforts being taken by the Federal government, peace will soon return to Borno State.
He louded President Muhammad Buhari for appointing some indigins of the state into Strategic Security positions, adding that the gesture has assited immensely in fighting the Boko haram terrorists.
Earlier , the CAN President Reverend Samson Ayokunle commended the Shehu of Borno for his fatherly disposition at accommodating Christians in the state.
Reverend Ayokunle stated that his mission to the state is to come and identify with Christians , particularly those in the Internal Displaced Persons ( IDPs) camp and give them food items amongst others to celebrate Easter
” We came here to visit some people (IDPs) and pray for and encourage them and bring relief materials that will help them continue to cope with their lives . Part of what we have distributed are food items which include 500 bags of Rice .
” We also brought sewing machines , so that those who have the skills in their different IDP camps will continue to earn money with out depending on any .
” It is our prayer that very soon, we will be able to overcome this challenges (Boko haram insurgency) in this part of the world, and all IDPs will be able to return to their homes .
