Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi has challenged the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to take his administration to court if he ran foul of the law in re-appointing Prof. Barineme Fakae as the acting Vice Chancellor of the state university of science and Technology.
Amaechi spoke while reacting to the one week warning strike embarked upon by the union over the re-appointment of the Vice Chancellor. He stated that the appointment of Fakae is in acting capacity according to the law.
The governor maintained that the university is governed by law and cannot be dictated to by the national leadership of ASUU. He insisted that salaries of lecturers who don’t report to work would not be paid.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the RSUST chapter of ASUU, Dr. Felix Igwe in an interview with newsmen at the weekend, said Prof. Fakae failed to emerge among the top three candidates in the selection process and wondered why the governor re-appointed him.
Igwe alleged that Fakae’s performance at the institution is not commensurate with the fund he received, describing the situation as a case of the more you look, the less you see.
Pointblanknews.com gathered that the authorities of the university have fixed the second semester examinations to commence on 17th September, stressing that students must make themselves available for the examinations.
