The last Monday’s cease-fire announced by a leader of the dreaded Islamic Boko Haram sect in Maiduguri appeared to have been punctured as unknown gun men killed two police men in Kano when they threw explosives at a police station in Bunkure, burning a wing of the buildings.
Residents told Pointblanknews.com that they had sounds and explosives and gun fires around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG, in charge of Zone 1, Mr. David Olufemi Omojola in a Press Conference on Thursday confirmed the attack on the Police station, saying investigation is on to ascertain the perpetrators.
No group has claimed responsibility yet, but from all indications, the mannerism of the attack is not far from the Boko Haram style.
AIG Omojola told newsmen that a wing of the Police station was razed when unknown gun men suspected to be terrorists threw explosive at the station.
A Police source also confirmed that a sergeant and a Corporal lost their lives during the incident.
“One of the wings of station was razed down when explosives was thrown at it,” said the Police boss, who added that as at press time, he could not confirm whether the perpetrators were members of the Boko Haram sect.
Meanwhile, Police in Kano have arrested 23 persons in connection with violent clashes between supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the opposition All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP) ahead Saturday’s by-election in Garko and Gaya state constituencies.
Hon. Danladi Isah Kademi and Hon. Abba Garko representing Gaya and Garko Constituencies respectively fell by the bullets of the Islamic Boko Haram sect last December.
On Wednesday evening, the convoy of the immediate past governor of Kano state, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau was attacked by hoodlums suspected to be political thugs. Senator Kabiru Gaya and Hon.

Omojola charged Kano people to remain law-abiding during the February 2 by-election in the volatile state.
He confirmed that 23 people have been arrested as a result of violent clashes between supporters of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Nigerian Peoples Party, ANPP.
“There have been allegations and counter allegations by the two parties. I appeal to all supporters of political parties to conduct themselves well and allow electoral process to go through by supporting INEC and other stakeholders connected to the conduct of the election.
“Under no circumstances should illegal gathering and fighting should take place. I am warning groups planning to make trouble to stay clear. They should be law-abiding and cooperate with police and other security agencies to ensure law and order,” Omojola warned.
According to him, about 6,000 police men will be deployed to ensure a hitch-free election in both constituencies.
