The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 41-year-old tour agent, Ifeanyi Obed Augustine, and a 46-year-old businessman, Obasi Ugochukwu, over a consignment of Colorado, an illicit drug, concealed inside a music speaker and allegedly destined for Liberia.
The suspects were arrested on Monday, during a sting operation in Lagos after operatives of the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) intercepted the consignment at a motor park in Maza-Maza.
According to the NDLEA, the music speaker contained three packs of the illicit substance, which was being transported through Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, to its final destination in Liberia.
The agency said that after intercepting the speaker, its operatives traced the consignment and mounted surveillance around the expected recipients.
The surveillance operation eventually led to the arrest of Augustine and Ugochukwu at a nearby eatery.
The NDLEA said the arrests were part of its ongoing efforts to disrupt drug trafficking networks and prevent illicit consignments from reaching their intended destinations.
“The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue into the intercepted consignment and the intended recipients,” the agency said.
The agency added that further investigation would establish the roles allegedly played by the suspects in the movement of the consignment and identify other individuals who may be linked to the trafficking operation.
