The Vatican was forced to recall 6000 medals struck to commemorate Pope Francis because the name of Jesus was spelled “Lesus.”
The medals, which are often minted for a new pope, were struck in gold, silver and bronze by the Italian state mint. They went on sale Tuesday.
The Vatican said it withdrew the flawed medals from sale Tuesday after it discovered the spelling error.
However, four of the medals were purchased before the recall. Collectors say they could bring very high prices because of the error.
