We Will Report Fayemi’s Human Rights Abuses To UN -US Group

by Our Reporter

A United States of America (USA) based Non Governmental Organisation, Justice For All Nations (JFAN) has threatened to report human rights abuses being perpetrated by the Dr Kayode Fayemi led Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) government in Ekiti State to the United Nations (UN).

The group Coordinator, Dr. Dada Popoola, who made this known in a release issued today, said “it is becoming worrisome that a government headed by someone like Dr. Fayemi, who is a member of the human rights community could harbour people like Deji Adesokan (Jaruu) that is daily unleashing terror on the people.”

JFAN said the preliminary report it got from its members sent on fact-finding mission to Ekiti State was alarming, adding that; “something urgent must be done to prevent the State from turning to a state of anarchy because citizens of the State, especially members of opposition parties are already threatening to take laws into their hands should they be attacked by agents of the State Government again.”

The statement read further; “We are alarmed by the level of human rights abuses going on in Ekiti State, and even more worried that the State is being governed by a governor like Dr. Kayode Fayemi, who was a member of the human rights community before he became governor.

“Last Friday, Special Assistant to Dr Fayemi on Internal Security, Mr.
Deji Adesokan, otherwise known as Jaruu and some policemen in the government house assaulted and brutalised the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), Ado-Ekiti Business Unit’s Makerting Manager, Mr Julius Ige and Public Relations Manager, Mr Ilori Kayode Brown.

“Privates homes of the two PHCN Managers were invaded and they were forcibly taken to the Government House, Ado-Ekiti where they were kept until about 1.15am on Saturday simply because PHCN disconnected power supply to the Government House over a debt of N15 million.

“This same aide of Governor Fayemi was instrumental to the arrest and harassment of Mr. Lere Olayinka, media aide to former governor of the State, Chief Segun Oni simply because Mr. Olayinka aired his views on Facebook.

“Also, it was the same Adesokan, who at various times invaded the venues of the State Congresses of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) with gun-wielding thugs and disrupted the elections of the two unions. He (Adesokan) also invaded the venue of the Ekiti Council of Youths programme with thugs, who shot sporadically into the air to chase the participants away.

“All these are apart from leading armed policemen to demolish houses and harass law abiding citizens of the State that are opposed to Fayemi’s government, and we believe time has come to put a stop to this regime of rascality and impunity in Ekiti State.

“Therefore, we might be forced to report the governor and his collaborators in the security agencies to the UN if those involved in the latest brutalisation of the two PHCN staff are not arrested and prosecuted within the next 14 days.”
