ABSUTH Mgt denies visiting Senator Kalu to
pay arrears of workers’ salarie
The Management of Abia State University Teaching Hospital, (ABSUTH),
Aba, has denied visiting the Senator representing Abia North senatorial
zone, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu and asking him to pay arrears of salaries
owed workers in the Hospital.
Abia State Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Dr.Okwuonu
Chimezie, was alleged to have paid a courtesy call to Senator Kalu where
he urged him to help pay salary arrears owed ABSUTH workers.
However, the Chairman of the Governing Council, ABSUTH, Dr. Wokoh
Davidson, explained that the statement attributed to the NMA chairman
does not represent the current state of affairs at the Teaching
Hospital.
“We are not aware of any of such visit to any Senator. We did not
authorize such statements. The Government of Abia State led by Dr.
Okezie Ikpeazu has shown genuine interest and is determined to clear the
salary arrears – as the first tranche of payment was received recently.”
He stated that the Board and Management of the Institution frowns at
what he described as outlandish calls that have no substance.
Wokoh further disclosed that the State government has commenced the
payment of the arrears as earlier promised by the Governor and expressed
the gratitude of the Board and Management of ABSUTH to the State
Government in revitalizing the Hospital.
