Like they say, everything in life has its time and season. A time to begin a journey and a time to end it. For ace footballer and Leicester City Captain, Jamie Vardy, the time to end his walk with Leicester City has come. It is indeed the end of an era. An end to 13 years of glittery and dazzling playing time with the Foxes at the King Power Stadium. It’s been praises galore.
The years of Vardy at Leicester can be described as helluva! Years adorned with epic victories. The appreciative club has thus clothed him with robes of honour, describing him as the greatest player ever. He would be missed, no doubt!
Vardy was instrumental to the Leicester’s 2015/16 Premier league title victory. Signed up from the non-league Fleetwood Town, for N1m in 2012, he towered above all obstacles to becoming a Premier League legend.
In his nearly 500 appearances on the field of play, 198 goals were netted. His 24-goal haul during the evergreen 2015/16 season was instrumental to Leicester’s glorious crown.
The 38-year-old iconic footballer also played a major role in Leicester’s 2021 FA Cup final triumph over Chelsea FC, further cementing his overall iconic status in the club.
The Club has released a statement of praises and eulogies for their outgoing legend. It reads; “We can confirm that our iconic striker Jamie Vardy will be leaving Leicester city this summer after 13 seasons that have seen him become our greatest ever player.”
“Jamie is unique”, said Leicester’s Chairman, Aiyewatt Srivaadhanaprabha.
“He is a special player and even more special person. He holds a place in the hearts of everyone connected to Leicester City, and certainly has my profound respect and affection. I’m deeply grateful for what he has given to the Club”
In an emotion laden farewell message, Vardy admitted that the time was right to exit. “To the fans of Leicester City, I’m gutted that this day is coming, but I truly knew it was going to come eventually” he said in a video posted on social media.
“I have spent 13 unbelievable years at the club with lots of successes and downs, but the majority have been highs”
Vardy’s final date with the round leather game at King Power Stadium is fixed for May 18 2025 against Ipswich Town. This glorious downing of his cotton in Leicester is sure the end of an era.
Where is the 38-year-old iconic bloke headed? That remains in the womb of time. One thing is sure, he is not tired yet! Wherever he goes, it’s obvious that his fans will remain stuck with him.
For Sports Journalist Jude Adelaku, Vardy at 38 still has the oomph and gusto of a 25-year-old.
“His life was full of challenges. He got to the peak of his career late. I’m happy that he is still in top form at age 38. There comes a time when a man must leave where he has been. I wish him well, and I know the world is yet to see the last of him,” Adelaku said.
