Mentally challenged woman delivers baby boy in Anambra

Two heavily pregnant mentally challenged women have been rescued by a
security team from the Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs.

The women were rescued in Awka and Onitsha respectively.

It was gathered that the one rescued in Onitsha, delivered a few hours
after she was rescued through the assistant of spirited individuals.

A source from the Ministry said the woman was rescued following a
distress call to the State Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs,
Lady Ndidi Mezue from a concerned citizen who spotted the woman.

The source said, “Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs, through the
assistant of spirited individuals rescued a heavily pregnant mentally
challenged woman at Onitsha, who few hours after her rescue gave birth
to a bouncing baby boy.

“On receiving the call, the Commissioner swung into action and
immediately sought the assistance of the Women Development Officer (WDO)
of Onitsha North local government area.

“The officer together with a nurse rushed the woman to Onitsha General
Hospital where she was delivered of a bouncing baby boy.”

The source added that the Commissioner has ordered for the rescued
victim in Awka be relocated to a government facility where she would be
cared for until her due date of delivery.
