Nigerian military on Monday set fire to the MT Deima vessel with International Maritime Organization, IMO number 7210525 in Warri, Delta State, after it was discovered to be carrying illicit crude oil.
The ship had been detained by Tantita Security Services Limited, a security firm since last week Thursday.
The vessel, whose owners have not yet been located, was stopped at the Escravos River in the Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State while carrying eight crew members and an unknown quantity of crude oil.
It was captured last week by security personnel and turned over to the Nigerian Navy.
According to reports, the ship was intercepted after a tip-off that it was loading crude at the Escravos axis and that N25 million had allegedly been offered as a bribe to the security personnel.
The ship’s capacity was determined to be 1,500 metric tonnes, with eight crew members on board
