The Nigeria Police Force has arrested six suspects in connection with last Friday’s deadly ambush on its tactical teams by suspected armed herdsmen and local militias at Agu Centre, Katsina-Ala/Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
The attack, which occurred on September 19, 2025, left three police officers dead while seven others remain missing. The Commissioner of Police in Benue State, CP Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari, is personally leading a major response operation aimed at rescuing the missing personnel and capturing those still on the run.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, condemned the killings in strong terms, describing them as “cruel, unwarranted, and an affront on the good people of Benue State.”
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed in a statement on Sunday, 21 September 2025 that the arrested suspects are already assisting investigators with vital information. He added that the IGP has ordered the deployment of additional tactical assets to the flashpoint to reinforce ongoing operations.
According to Egbetokun, “no stone will be left unturned in restoring peace and security in Benue State.”
Meanwhile, the Police appealed to residents of Benue to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative, assuring that efforts are being intensified to rescue the missing officers, apprehend the fleeing suspects, and dismantle the criminal networks behind the heinous attack.
