American rapper, TV presenter and Record Label Executive, Alvin Nathaniel, also known as Xzibit has expressed disappointment in today’s youths over misuse of their smart phones thereby missing the opportunities imbedded.
He wondered why they’d preffer taking shots of their food to display on the internet instead of “Learning how to operate a brain”
He said, “The Youths taking pictures of their food instead of learning how to operate a brain are missing out big time”
The rapper did not hold back as he talked about the era’s youths’ relationship with technology.
“Look, these phones, they’re super computers,” he said. “Instead of learning how to operate a brain, you’re taking pictures of your food and other stuff.”
The Record Label Executive decried the apparent disconnect between the massive potentials of smartphones and other modern tools and how little they’re actually being used to grow.
“As a young boy, my parents had encyclopedias (big books). You had to spell the word, find the page, read it, write it down. Now, you’ve got it all right here on a platter and you don’t even use it or use it enough.”
To him, the youth of this day have a lot of opportunities buried in smartphones. Alas! They’re not interested in flying as they should with the technology.
He thinks this era of constant connectivity via smartphones is being wasted by the youths that ought to be the major beneficiary.
“You could literally do brain surgery with instructions from this thing you’re holding. (your phone) but, instead you take pictures of what’s not important and argue with each other.
“Take time. Put in your 10,000 hours. Be really good at something. Pick something, and if you love it enough to do it, that’s what you should be doing.”
Xzibit’s call to action is blunt! Abuse of smart phones by youths is a global challenge especially in developing countries.
