Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PD), in Abia State, Prof. Uche Eleazar Ikonne, has said he would disappoint those who expect to be a stooge to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, if elected Governor in the 2023 governorship poll in the state.
Ikonne who disclosed this while inaugurating his campaign council in Umuahia North LGA, said that those who are behind the rumors that he will be a puppet to Ikpeazu are only blackmailing him and the PDP.
He explained that his excellent performance as the Vice Chancellor, Abia State University(ABSU) Uturu, proves that he cannot be a stooge to anybody.
“It’s not true that I was anointed to be teleguided; what is true is that the Governor believes in my ability to advance governance in the state.
“I am a proud man, the most equipped governorship candidate in Abia State. I can’t be a stooge to anybody , those who are saying that Ikpeazu anointed me to be a stooge should look at my record as the Vice Chancellor of ABSU.”
He pledged to make the payment of salaries and pensions the priority of his administration and vowed not to owe workers.
He noted that no staff of the ABSU was owed salary during his tenure as VC except during the Covid-19 pandemic.
