NLC President threatens to lead nationwide protest over election outcome

by Our Reporter
As Nigerians are still waiting anxiously to know the final results of the Presidential election of last Saturday, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Comrade Joe Ajaero has threatened to lead a protest over the way and manner the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is handling the final release of the results.
Ajaero who spoke on AIT breakfast programme Kakaaki monitored in Abuja on Tuesday restated the stand of NLC that the country risks mass protest by Nigerians if the election umpire disappointed the nation.

Pointblanknews.com reports NLC, in the statement signed by its newly-elected National President, Ajaero, and made available to journalists in Abuja last night, lampooned INEC for failing to upload the election results on its servers as required by the Electoral Act 2022.

He said Nigerians would reject any result announced and not uploaded on INEC’s server before announcement as required by law, pointing out that the INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu has to postpone the announcements of further results of the Presidential and NASS elections until the Electoral Provisions are met.

The veteran Labour leader warned that he will personally lead protest against INEC, starting from his home state of Imo where he alleged that the results of the Presidential and NASS elections he participated in are being doctored by corrupt INEC Ad hoc staff.

Said he: “We cannot continue to be vegetables in Nigeria when evils are being perpetuated upon the land. How can INEC continue to contravene the Provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 and we will keep quiet. I call on INEC to suspend the announcements of further results until the results are uploaded in the INEC Server”.

Ajaero also said he is determined to lead the protest starting from his  community where he voted and the results are being changed, stressing “So I will lead protest to Owerri where the results are being manipulated”.

Recall the main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party Agents and seven of their colleagues on Monday walked out of the National Collation Center at International Conference Center, Abuja, after INEC decided to continue the collation and announcements of results despite protestations by the political parties to halt the exercise pending when the Commission will collate the results from the INEC Results Viewing Portals (iREV).

Also, prominent Nigerians including former President Olusegun Obasanjo  have called for the cancellation of results where fraud and disturbances were recorded during last Saturday’s election.
