The Police in Kaduna on Monday arraigned two persons, Nuhu Audu and Christopher Bawa, before Magistrate Court I for alleged impersonation.
Audu, 27 and Bawa 30, who reside at No. 14 and 149 School road Kurmin Mashi, Kaduna, were accused of parading themselves as Flight Lieutenants in the Nigeria Airforce.
They were arraigned on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.
According to the Police prosecutor, Simon Usman, the two were arrested by the police along Government College road, Kurmin Mashi, with fake Airforce Identity Cards.
He said Audu and Bawa had presented forged ID cards, bearing the rank of Flight Lieutenant of the Airforce, when they were stopped on a routine check by the police along the road.
The offence, Usman said was contrary to Section 97, 364 and 179 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.
When the charges were read to them, they pleaded not guilty, and their counsel, Mr Auta Maisaman, in an application, prayed the court to grant them bail.
“The offence the accused persons are standing trial for, is a bailable offence under section 341 (2) of the Criminal Procedure Code and section 36 (3) of the 1999 constitution.
“My clients have given the assurance that they will not jump bail if the court grants same,” he said.
The presiding officer, Chief Magistrate Nasiru Idris, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100,000 with two reliable sureties each.
The sureties, the magistrate said must be residing within the court’s jurisdiction.
He adjourned the case to April 3 for hearing
