The Kano State Police Command has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the violent attack on the convoy of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, which occured at the Kofar Mata Eid prayer ground on Sunday.
The incident resulted in the death of a vigilante officer and caused injuries to others.
Eyewitness accounts revealed that a group of hoodlums engaged in stone-throwing directed at the Emir’s entourage immediately following the Eid prayers.
This act was perceived as a deliberate attempt to disrupt and disrespect the highly esteemed traditional leader. The Emir was under the protection of palace guards and security personnel during the attack.
Tragically, the violence escalated, culminating in the fatal stabbing of Surajo Rabiu, a vigilante officer from Sabon Titi Jaba Quarters. Aminu Sulaiman, another officer from Kofar Mata Quarters, suffered severe injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment at Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano.
Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer, released a statement confirming the arrest of one suspect, Usman Sagiru (20) of Sharifai Quarters, in connection with the murder and assault. Additionally, Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, have been summoned for questioning, while other suspects remain at large.
The Kano State Police Command has reiterated its prohibition of all Durbar processions and violent gatherings. The statement emphasized that any individual or group attempting to instigate violence or disturb public peace will be subject to stringent legal action.
“We urge the public to maintain composure and cooperate with security agencies to ensure the preservation of peace and order,” Kiyawa stated.
The police command has assured the public that investigation is ongoing, pledging it’s commitment to apprehending and prosecuting all individuals responsible for the attack.
