The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has struck a significant blow against cybercrime in Benin City, Edo State, apprehending 47 suspected internet fraudsters in a coordinated operation on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.
Acting on reliable intelligence pointing to widespread fraudulent online activities, operatives from the Benin Zonal Directorate of the Commission swooped on various locations within the city, netting the alleged “Yahoo Boys.”
The swift operation resulted in the recovery of several high-value assets believed to be proceeds of their illicit activities. Among the items seized were five luxurious cars, alongside numerous smartphones and laptop computers, tools of their alleged illegitimate operations.
The EFCC has vowed that the arrested individuals will face legal repercussions and will be charged in court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
The latest bust underscores the agency’s continued efforts to combat the pervasive issue of internet fraud across Nigeria.
