The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has recommended May 27 as tentative date for the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting just as it also recommended August 27 – 30 as tentative days for National Convention.
The dates are line with the recommendations of PDP governors after its meeting in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital last week.
Speaking with journalists after its NWC meeting on Tuesday in Abuja, Acting National Chairman of the Party, Amb. Umar Damagum said that the party has sealed the fate of its former National Publicity Secretary, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu following recommendations of the governors elected on the platform of the party. The NWC confirmed that Arc. Setonji Koshoedo has been approved as Acting National Secretary.
“The NWC has approved the recommendations by the PDP governors in Ibadan. It discussed the issue of NEC, the issue of National Secretaries, the issue of Convention and the committees that was recommended. All will be discussed as soon as we have our NEC” Damagum disclosed.
He said that in line with the resolutions of the governors, the NWC will recommend the Convention date and committees constituted by the governors to NEC for approval.
“The issue around the National Secretary, we are forwarding all the issues, the recommendations of the governors to NEC. At NEC, they will take an appropriate action.
“I cannot speak for NEC, I will only recommend. If you see the communique of the Governor’s forum, all the dates for NEC, for convention have been communicated. But it is a proposal, subject to NECs approval”.
He equally assured that the party will take action against PDP governors that openly throw their weight behind the President Bola Tinubu re-election project.
Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) fixed August 28 for the national convention of the party.
The governors had announced that the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party is scheduled to be hold from May 15 to 27.
“The Forum resolves that working in conjunction with the National Working Committee (NWC) and other relevant organs of the party, hold a NEC Meeting on the 27th of May, 2025; constitute a zoning Committee that will address all issues relating to zoning of party offices and hold an early convention in August 2025, precisely on the 28th, 29th and 30th in the ancient city of Kano,” the communique reads.
The forum recommended the constitution of the zoning and national convention committees for ratification by the NWC and NEC.
They appointed Douye Diri, governor of Bayelsa, as chairman of the zoning committee, with Dauda Lawal, governor of Zamfara, as vice-chairman, and Caleb Mutfwang, governor of Plateau, as secretary.
The forum named Ahmadu Fintiri, governor of Adamawa as the chairman of the national convention committee; Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun, as the vice-chairman; and Peter Mbah, governor of Enugu as secretary.
