The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC), pursuant to Section 29(2)(b) of the PDP Constitution has approved the appointment of the Edo State Caretaker Committee to pilot the affairs of the Edo State Chapter of our Party.
The PDP in Edo State has been grappling with a deepening crisis following its defeat in the September 2024 governorship election. Internal divisions, particularly between Governor Godwin Obaseki’s camp and the Dan Orbih-led Legacy Group culminated in the establishment of parallel caretaker committees and secretariats, leading to organizational disarray.
The PDP’s governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, backed by Obaseki, faced challenges from within the party, including disputes over the legitimacy of the primary elections due to the exclusion of 378 delegates.
The ongoing factionalism and leadership disputes have left the Edo PDP in a state of turmoil, hindering its ability to regroup and strategize for future elections.
In a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba on Tuesday, the party charged the Caretaker Committee with the responsibility of running the affairs of the Party in Edo State, as stipulated under Section 21(2)(a-b) of the PDP Constitution for a period not exceeding 3 months.
The NWC charges all members of the Party in Edo State to remain united and continue to work with the Caretaker Committee for the stability and success of our Party.
The members of the committee are: Dr. Tony Aziegbemi – Chairman, Hon. Harrison Omagbon – member, Hon. Fidel Igenegbale – member, Hon. Chris Nehikhare – member, Tony Anenih Jnr. – member, Arch. Bishop Anthony Okosun – member and Hon. Segun Saiki – member.
Others are Adezat Kuburat Ibrahim – member, Augustine Edosomwan – member and Hon. Henry Duke Tenebe – Secretary.
The PDP also calls on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Security Agencies and the Media to note the appointment and composition of the Edo State Caretaker Committee led by Dr. Tony Aziegbemi and be guided accordingly.
