Legendary English footballer, David Beckham has been awarded the knighthood by King Charles III in the monarch’s 2025 Birthday Honours List, officially earning the title “Sir”.
The long-anticipated recognition celebrates Beckham’s exceptional and trail blazing contributions to football and his extensive charitable works spanning decades.
The announcement, made today, June 14, marks a significant moment in Beckham’s career and public life.
He is widely considered one of England’s most celebrated athletes.
The 50-year-old former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder has also earned praises for his role as a global ambassador for sport and his unrivalled support for humanitarian causes.
Beckham, in his playing days won 115 caps for England and captained the national team in major tournaments, and he has remained an influential figure in football through his work with Inter Miami CF and global sporting organizations.
Off the pitch, the former England captain has worked with UNICEF for nearly two decades and was recently appointed an ambassador of The King’s Foundation.
His wife, fashion designer and former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, will now be entitled to use the courtesy title “Lady”.
The official knighthood investiture ceremony, during which King Charles will formally confer the title is expected to take place later this year.
Beckham joins a distinguished list of honourees in this year’s Birthday Honours, including Oscar-winning actor Gary Oldman, rugby legend Billy Boston, Frontman Roger Daltrey, and teenage darts prodigy Luke Littler, who was awarded an MBE.
The King’s Birthday Honours list for 2025, published in the London Gazette, recognises more than 1,200 individuals across various fields for their service to the United Kingdom , the Commonwealth and humanity.
Beckham is happy. He appreciates the king and said it’s a great privilege to have played for his country . The legend was an attacking mid fielder and Captained the England National team.
