Former Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Lauretta Onochie on Thursday met with the Interim National Secretary of African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola behind closed doors.
Confirming the meeting on her verified Facebook page, Onochie said that the meeting was focused on national development and strategies to steer the country back on the path of progress.
“Yesterday, Big Brother and Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and yours truly had a meeting. It was centered around recovering our nation from her captives,” she wrote.
Onochie, a staunch supporter of late President Muhammadu Buhari, previously served as Special Assistant on Social and Digital Media before her appointment as NDDC Board Chairman. Her recent meeting with a key figure in the opposition coalition has elicited some commentaries.
While no additional details were provided regarding the content or outcomes of the meeting, Onochie’s remarks suggest a shared concern over the current state of the nation and a call for collaborative action across political lines.
“God bless Nigeria,” she added in her post, concluding the update.
With the death of former President Buhari, his political supporters including Onochie, Nasir El-Rufai and others, are gradually gravitating towards political obscurity. Buhari was a figure who symbolized political strength and conservative ideals, but his absence leaves a significant vacuum and lack of political cohesion among his supporters.
His loyalists, once united under his personality and influence, now face a struggle for relevance and direction.
The internal dynamics within the All Progressives Congress (APC) have shifted, with newer power blocs gradually sidelining Buhari’s core loyalists. Some are now scrambling to maintain relevance and align with other parties, especially the coalition anchored by the ADC ahead of the 2027 general election.
