Nigerian Afrobeats star, Tiwatope Omolara Savage (popularly known as Tiwa Savage), has clarified her viral remark suggesting she would be open to becoming a second wife, saying the comment came from a place of emotional frustration rather than a deliberate desire for such a union.
Speaking in a recent interview, the award-winning singer reflected on her past marriage to Tunji Balogun, popularly known as Tee Billz, which ended in 2018 after a turbulent period involving allegations of infidelity and emotional strain.
She said the experience left her questioning the expectations many attach to marriage.
“I was a first wife, where did that get me?” she said. “I got married as the only wife, but here we are.”
Savage explained that her statement about being open to polygamy was made in a moment of heartbreak and is not something she genuinely desires.
While reacting to the social media backlash that followed, she lamented the fear many people have about sharing their personal truths online due to the constant threat of cyberbullying.
Observers note that everyone should be free to tell their stories without being subjected to ridicule or harassment. By all means, online bullying should be discouraged.
Savage’s comments have sparked conversations on the pressures high-profile women face in relationships, and the emotional consequences of failed marriages in society.
The 44-year-old superstar continues to make strides in global entertainment, even as her reflections fuel broader discussions on changing perceptions around marriage, love and the realities faced by modern women.
