Former Minister of Special Duties, Tanimu Turaki (SAN), has emerged as the new National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), while Amb. Taofeek Arapaja was elected National Secretary at the party’s National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, from November 15–16, 2025.
Announcing the results, the Secretary of the National Convention Organising Committee, Senator Ben Obi, said Turaki polled 1,516 votes to defeat his challenger, the 2023 PDP governorship candidate in Katsina State, Lado Danmarke, who had earlier withdrawn from the race but still recorded 275 votes. He revealed that 1,834 votes were cast in total, with 43 voided, while 3,131 delegates participated in the convention and 2,745 were accredited.
“It is therefore clear from the votes cast that Tanimu Turaki has won the position of National Chairman of the PDP with a total of 1,516 votes,” Obi declared.
He also announced that Solarin Sunday Adekunle won the position of Deputy National Organising Secretary with 633 votes.
The positions of National Youth Leader and Deputy National Legal Adviser were stepped down, while 17 other offices, being uncontested, had their nominees returned elected.
The convention was attended by several PDP governors, including Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), and Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau).
Governors Ademola Adeleke (Osun) and Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers) were absent, though Adeleke was officially represented.
Also in attendance were the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, represented by Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan; former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola; former Gombe State Governor, Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo; and the PDP Board of Trustees Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, among others.
