Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, on Monday held a closed-door meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, marking his first visit to the State House since his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Governor Kefas arrived at the Villa in the company of the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, before proceeding straight into a private session with the President.
The meeting comes weeks after Kefas formally dumped the PDP, a move that significantly altered the political landscape in Taraba State. His defection follows a wave of political realignments in the state, including the recent cross-carpeting of the Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly and 15 lawmakers, who defected from the PDP to the APC to “align with the centre” amid what they described as worsening internal crises in the opposition party at the national level.
Kefas was originally scheduled to be officially received into the APC on November 19, but the event was suspended. He explained at the time that holding a political celebration would be insensitive in light of the mass abduction of schoolgirls in Maga, Kebbi State, which had shocked the nation.
Monday’s visit is seen by political observers as an important step in cementing Kefas’s new political alignment and clarifying his role within the ruling party ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
As of the time of filing this report, details of the governor’s discussion with President Tinubu remain undisclosed.
