FIFA’s new release rule has forced the Super Eagles to relocate their AFCON 2025 training camp to Morocco and revise their original preparation schedule.
The change was triggered by FIFA’s instruction that players should only be released by their clubs from December 15.
Before now, the Nigerian team was scheduled to open camp on December 10. However, preparations will now commence on December 14 to accommodate the revised player release timeline and allow for smooth logistical arrangements.
In addition to the change in date, the Super Eagles have also moved their training base from Egypt to Morocco.
The new venue is believed to offer conditions more suitable for fine-tuning strategies ahead of the continental showpiece.
Nigeria, runners-up at the last edition of the competition, will be aiming to go one better at AFCON 2025 after losing to hosts Côte d’Ivoire in the final of the 2023 tournament.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is expected to issue official confirmation, including details on friendly matches and the final squad list, in the coming Days.
