The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Coalition (NDC), Peter Obi, has criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu, declaring that the President is “tired” and should return home to rest rather than seek another term in office.
Obi made the remarks during an interview on the WithChude podcast, where he accused the Tinubu administration of worsening poverty and insecurity across the country, arguing that the government’s promise of “Renewed Hope” has failed to translate into improved living conditions for Nigerians.
“President Tinubu is tired, he needs to go back home and rest. When he came into power, 87 million Nigerians were living in poverty. Today it’s 140 million. There is insecurity everywhere. Which hope are they going to renew again? You can’t renew failure,” Obi said.
The former Anambra State governor maintained that the country’s deepening economic hardship and persistent insecurity are clear indicators that the administration’s policies have not delivered the expected results.
He argued that rather than improving the welfare of citizens, the government has presided over a significant increase in the number of Nigerians living below the poverty line.
Obi also spoke about former Kano State governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, describing him as a politician who is genuinely committed to the welfare of Nigerians.
“Kwankwaso is one politician I can tell you has the interest of Nigerians at heart,” he stated.
Obi’s comments come amid continued debate over Nigeria’s economic reforms, rising cost of living, and growing security concerns, issues that are expected to dominate political discourse ahead of the next general election.
