The Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has formally resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The governor said his decision comes amid prevailing political realities and ongoing realignments within the state and the wider political space, as parties reposition ahead of future contests.
Since assuming office, Mutfwang has faced security challenges, communal tensions and economic pressures in parts of Plateau State, alongside internal party dynamics, which he said informed his resolve to seek a platform better aligned with his governance vision.
In a resignation letter dated December 29, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Ampang West Ward in Mangu Local Government Area, Mutfwang announced his decision to leave the party with immediate effect, citing “the need for purposeful leadership, clarity of direction and effective service delivery.”
He explained that the prevailing political environment and his personal commitment to focused governance compelled him to pursue his agenda through an alternative political platform that he believes would better support his vision for the state.
The development marks a significant political shift in Plateau State and is expected to trigger reactions within political circles, given Mutfwang’s long-standing involvement and contributions to the PDP over the years.
The letter, which was officially received and acknowledged by the ward leadership on December 30, 2025, expressed appreciation to the PDP for providing him the opportunity to participate in the democratic process.
Mutfwang also thanked party leaders, members and supporters at all levels for their support during his time in the party, describing the experience as one for which he remains deeply grateful.
