The Anambra State Government on Monday ordered the temporary closure of the New Auto Spare Parts Association (NASPA) Market, Nkwo Nnewi, following reports that traders defied Governor Charles Soludo’s directive to end Monday sit-at-home restrictions.
The market will remain closed for one week, with authorities warning that continued disobedience could attract stricter sanctions.
A public service announcement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor reads, “The Anambra State Government hereby informs the general public that New Auto Spare Parts Association (NASPA) Market, Nkwo Nnewi, is closed for business. The market, whose closure is effective from midnight today, Monday, 23rd February, 2026, will reopen next Monday, 2nd March, 2026.”
The closure follows reports of low compliance with the governor’s January 2026 directive, which mandated that markets across the state operate normally on Mondays.
The order was delivered on behalf of the governor by Special Adviser on Trade and Markets, Chief Evarist Uba, accompanied by Dr. Mefor, Special Adviser on Security AVM Ben Chiobi (Rtd), and Nnewi Mayor Hon. Echezona Anazodo.
Traders and customers have been advised to stay away from the market until it reopens to avoid confrontations with law enforcement officers.
Authorities also warned that further noncompliance could lead to additional closures.
The government reiterated its commitment to ending the sit-at-home order and ensuring uninterrupted economic activity across Anambra State.
