The African Democratic Congress has appealed to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, to urgently ensure the Supreme Court delivers judgment in its ongoing leadership crisis.
The party warned that any delay could stop it from taking part in the 2027 general elections.
In a letter dated April 28, 2026, and signed by its lawyer, Shuaibu Enejoh Aruwa, the ADC described the situation as critical, saying the party may be locked out of the elections if the judgment is not delivered within three days.
“Without a judgment within the next three days, the ADC faces the real risk of being excluded from the 2027 general elections,” the party said.
The case is currently before the Supreme Court of Nigeria, which had earlier reserved judgment on April 22 after hearing arguments from all parties involved.
The dispute is between former Senate President, David Mark, and Nafiu Bala Gombe over the party’s national leadership.
ADC said the delay is already affecting its operations, especially after the Independent National Electoral Commission removed its current leaders from official records.
“INEC has already de-recognised our leadership, leaving the party without direction at a very crucial time,” the letter stated.
The party also pointed out that preparations for the 2027 elections have already started, making the timing of the judgment very important.
“Our ability to meet election requirements depends entirely on the court’s decision. Time is no longer on our side,” the party stressed.
ADC warned that millions of its supporters could be affected if it is unable to participate in the elections.
“This situation could deny many Nigerians their right to vote and contest under a party of their choice,” it added.
At the last court hearing, lawyers representing David Mark argued that courts do not have the power to interfere in internal party matters and asked the Supreme Court to end the case.
However, the opposing side insisted that the lower court was right and urged the apex court to uphold its decision.
Meanwhile, earlier rulings had led to INEC removing David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from their positions as national chairman and secretary of the party, pending the final judgment.
For now, the ADC says its political future depends on how quickly the Supreme Court acts.
“Justice delayed in this case could mean justice denied not just for the party, but for millions of Nigerians,” the party warned.
