Nigerian singer and dancer Peter Okoye, one half of the defunct music duo P-Square, has reignited public interest in the group’s long-running family feud after launching a series of emotional videos in which he says he is finally ready to tell his side of the story.
The videos, released across his Instagram and Facebook platforms, mark what Peter describes as an effort to expose the truth behind the disagreements that ultimately led to the collapse of one of Africa’s most successful music groups.
“They buried the truth under years of noise. Today, I dig it up. Time to reveal them all! #TheyLied,” he declared in one of the posts that accompanied the video series.
The statement immediately sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians interpreting it as a direct reference to his prolonged dispute with his twin brother, Paul Okoye, and their elder brother and former manager, Jude Okoye.
Rather than making a single disclosure, Peter has been releasing the revelations in instalments. As of the time of filing this report, he had published seven episodes, with indications that more may follow.
The series has revived public interest in the family disagreements over management, finances, business ownership and creative control that repeatedly strained the relationship between the brothers before the group’s eventual breakup.
Allegations of financial exclusion
In the videos, Peter alleges that he was repeatedly sidelined in major financial and business decisions despite being an equal member of P-Square.
According to him, one of the key instruments through which he was allegedly disadvantaged was Northside Music Inc., a company linked to the family’s music business.
He claimed that the company’s ownership structure and management arrangements unfairly excluded him from important decisions and financial benefits.
Peter further alleged that Jude Okoye appointed his wife as a director of the company and allocated the largest shareholding to her, a move he said left him financially disadvantaged.
The singer also spoke about disputes over financial transactions, management structures and business dealings, some of which, he said, later attracted the attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to Peter, aspects of the dispute are now the subject of ongoing litigation.
Explaining why he decided to speak publicly after years of silence, he said he could no longer keep quiet.
“I’m done,” he declared in one of the recordings.
Many fans interpreted the statement as a sign that he no longer believes a lasting reconciliation with his brothers is possible.
From music icons to family crisis
P-Square rose to prominence in the early 2000s and became one of Africa’s most influential and commercially successful music groups.
The twin brothers earned global recognition for their energetic performances, synchronised choreography and a catalogue of hit songs, including Bizzy Body, Do Me, Personally, Temptation, Chop My Money, No One Like You and E No Easy.
At the height of their success, the duo sold out major venues across Africa, Europe and North America, won numerous awards and became one of Nigeria’s biggest music exports.
For many fans, P-Square represented not only musical excellence but also the strength of family unity.
Behind the scenes, however, tensions had reportedly been building for years.
Disagreements over management decisions, revenue sharing and the involvement of family members increasingly found their way into the public domain before the group officially split in 2017.
Following the breakup, Peter pursued a solo career under the stage name Mr P, while Paul continued recording as Rudeboy.
In 2021, the brothers reunited, delighting fans who believed the long-running feud had finally ended.
That reconciliation, however, proved short-lived as fresh disagreements later surfaced over royalties, business interests and communication, once again placing the brothers at the centre of public attention.
Jude rejects allegations
While Paul Okoye had not issued a detailed public response to Peter’s latest claims as of the time this report was filed, Jude Okoye has rejected the allegations.
In separate videos circulating on social media, Jude reportedly dismissed Peter’s claims as “lies and half-truths” and offered his own account of the events.
His response has further fuelled public debate, with fans and entertainment commentators closely following developments as the exchanges continue online.
Fans divided
Peter’s disclosures have generated intense reactions across social media, with thousands of users weighing in on the dispute.
Many sympathised with the singer, arguing that he deserved the opportunity to tell his own story after years of speculation.
Others, however, urged the family to resolve their differences privately rather than through social media.
“P-Square gave us too many memories for this story to end in bitterness,” one Instagram user wrote.
Another commented: “If there is a truth that has been hidden, Nigerians deserve to hear it directly and not through rumours.”
Some online users have openly criticised Jude Okoye, accusing him of contributing to the breakdown of the relationship between the brothers.
Supporters of Jude, however, insist the public is hearing only one side of a complex family dispute and have urged Nigerians to reserve judgment until all parties have fully presented their accounts.
More revelations expected
With Peter continuing to release new episodes, Jude issuing rebuttals and Paul yet to make a comprehensive public response, public interest in the controversy shows no sign of fading.
Entertainment observers say the unfolding exchanges have reopened old wounds surrounding the breakup of one of Africa’s most iconic music groups and may yet reveal new details about the family conflict that has remained largely unresolved for years.
Whether Peter ultimately grants an in-depth interview, publishes a memoir or continues documenting his experiences through social media remains uncertain.
For now, his message is unmistakable: after years of silence, he says he is determined to tell his story.
“I’m done,” he repeated in one of the videos.
As the revelations continue, the future of the relationship between the Okoye brothers remains uncertain, while ongoing legal proceedings may ultimately determine the outcome of some of the issues now being debated in the public arena.
