The Bauchi State Government has approved N2.4 billion for the payment of pension arrears of its retired personnel.
Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar, the Chairman, Bauchi State Pensions Board, made this known on Tuesday at a press briefing in Bauchi.
He said that N300 million would be paid monthly for the next six months and thereafter N100 million monthly.
Abubakar said that the payments would put smiles on the faces of the retirees and their dependants, more so as they had lost hope of getting their benefits.
The chairman, who was represented by Alhaji Aliyu Tilde, a permanent member of the board, said that another N573.2 million was earmarked for the payment of gratuity to 800 beneficiaries.
According to Abubakar, the state government pays its pensioners N1.55 billion monthly.
He said that a bill for the establishment of a Pension Fund Trustees and the Defined Contributory Pension had been sent to the state House of Assembly. (NAN)
