Several sounds of gunshots at two locations in the northwestern state of
Kano Tuesday morning had heightened fear and rumour of terrorists attack
in the state, but reactions by the spokes man of the Joint Task Force
(JTF) in Kano confirmed that the gunshots were as a result of raids and
breakthrough made during road block by the Nigerian forces.
Pointblanknews.com gathered that two terrorists were arrested as they were
heading for operation in the Northeastern state of Zamfara through Kano.
Captain Iweha said two of the suspected Boko Haram members were gunned
down during a raid at Gayawa area of Ungogo Local Government Area.
According to the statement : “In continuation of operations aimed at
complementing the efforts of operation of in the North Eastern part of the
country and as is customary with the JTF in Kano, the command wishes to
keep the general public up to speed with developments.
“On 18 November, at about 1930 hours (7:30 pm), following intelligence
build up, the JTF and personnel of the Department of State Service, Kano
Command mounted a snap check point along Kankara – Sheme road in Katsina
State to intercept fleeing terrorists from operations in the north eastern
axis of the country.
“Two terrorists were intercepted and apprehended on their way to Zamfara
State. Two AK 47 rifles, 4 magazines, and 68 rounds of 7.62mm special
ammunition were recovered from them in a Nissan Sunny car.
“Following interrogation of the terrorists, a further cordon and search
operation was also conducted this morning, 19 November 2013, at about 0630
hours (6:30 am) at Gayawa general area of Ungogo Local Government Area.”
JTF revealed that items recovered from them include two AK 47 rifles, five
magazines, 91 rounds of 7.62 special ammunition, among other items.
“The proactive reactions of the JTF in Kano continue to deny terrorists
freedom of action and from using the State as a launching pad to launch
attacks on other parts of the country, adding that the breakthrough was,
“as a result of the support the JTF is receiving from members of the
general public.
“Members of the general public are enjoined to compliment the efforts of
the JTF by carrying out thorough checks on the background of persons who
wish to let properties especially in out skirt areas. The JTF in Kano
would not allow the state to be used as haven for terrorists. The appeals
of the JTF will continue to be complimented with the destruction of
properties terrorists reside in and the arrests of their owners.
“The effort of the JTF would not be successful without the cooperation of
the residents of Kano. The JTF therefore calls on all residents of Kano
not to relent in the fight against terrorist elements who are seeking
refuge in the state by reporting any suspicious persons regardless of
gender for immediate action to prevent the loss of lives and properties.
“Additionally, members of the general public are please enjoined to go
about their normal lawful businesses without any fear and to contact the
JTF through its telephone numbers in the event of any distress for rapid
response,” Iweha added.
