Kano state governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso has commissioned North-West
zonal office of the National Pension Commission located at Bompai area in
Kano city.
Performing the function, Governor Kwankwaso noted that the establishment
of the office would reduce the burden of people travelling to Abuja on the
pension matters, as the new facility will grant them easy access to the
services provided by the commission.
He said people of the North-West identify with the key objectives of the
scheme, to ensure that every person who worked in the public or private
sector received his retirement benefits duly, explaining that with the new
zonal office, the trauma associated with delay in the payment of
retirement benefits has been properly tackled.
He assured the commission of full government support, being the host of
the zonal office, and reaffirmed the commitment of other governor in the
zone to work with the commission to make its set goals achievable.
In his remark, the governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Malam Sunusi
Lamido Sunusi, Danmajen of Kano, promised that the CBN will continue to
work with the Pension Commission to reposition the pension scheme in the
country.
He explained that so far, the Federal government pension reform has
impacted positively on economic growth and accelerated national
development. The CBN, he assured, will continue to work with the all
stakeholders to minimize pension liabilities.
On her part the acting Director-General of the Commission, Chinelo
Anohu-Amazu said the North-West office has a mandate to effectively extend
the services of the commission to all the seven states in the zone.
“The Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) is the most remarkable of such
initiative that is aimed at ensuring the comfort of workers after
retirement”, she said.
