Few weeks after reports of forcing members to switch parties rent the
air; another crisis is brewing in Imo state House of Assembly as
members now wear party uniforms and logo to sittings.
Pointbalnknews.com gathered that the faceoff among members was caused
by party differences rocking the House as members now adorn party
uniforms and logo showing solidarity to their political parties.
An aide to one of the members from Owerri Federal Constituency who
spoke on the condition of anonymity told our correspondent that all is
not well with the Assembly as members have been sharply divided across
party lines.
According to him, the APC members of the House are now used to
appearing with their mufflers hung on their neck while those who still
belong to APGA like Victor Ndunagu, Eudora Obiageli Igwe and Greg
Okemini are clad in cloths showing Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu,
Gov. Peter Obi and Victor Umeh.
Pointblanknews.com further gathered that situation has thrown the 27
member House into camps as some members have vowed never to defect to
the APC. Sources hinted that the last week expulsion of the member
representing Oru East state constituency from the House is not
unconnected with his refusal to cross over to the APC.
Okemini does not possess a certificate of return for INEC, but was
allegedly sworn in through a court order as his election to the House
is still a subject of litigation. Speaker of the House, Ben Uwajumogu
was said to have threatened him several times to defect to the APC and
be protected or have his seat declared vacant. Okemini’s refusal to
play ball by defecting to the APC may have led to his seat being
declared vacant last week.
Gov. Rochas Okorocha is alleged to have mandated Uwajumogu and his
Chief of Staff, Jude Ejiogu to do everything possible to ensure that
APC garners the required majority in the House.
