Stakeholders Kick
All Peoples Congress (APC) chieftains in Kwara State appear set for a showdown with the party’s national publicity secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed over his insistence that fresh congresses be held in parts of the state.
Mohammed, who spends the better part of his time in Abuja and Lagos, failed to participate in the party’s recent ward, council and state congresses.
Pointblanknews.com gathered that APC’s spokesman, having realized the folly of his non-participation in the congresses, is piling pressure on top leaders of the party to cancel the congresses in order to accommodate him.
Pointblanknews.com checks revealed that Mohammed is pressuring the party’s national leader, Senator Bola Tinubu to prevail on Senator Bokola Saraki to oblige him.
Saraki is APC leader in Kwara State.
Pointblanknews.com however gathered that APC leaders in Oro, an affluent Igbomina city of nine towns, have roundly rejected pleas to hold fresh congresses for Mohammed’s sake.
“Why should we allow such nonesense,” fumed one APC chieftain. “This is one man who never participates in any party matter here and yet wants the rules bent for his inordinate ambition to be governor at all cost.”
Another APC chieftain from the senatorial district said the party leaders were studying the situation to see how it would play out.
He, however vowed to “resist any attempt by a cabal to trample on the collective will of the people for the sake of one aged Colonel without troops.”
He said, “Lai Mohammed is one aged Colonel whose troops have all deserted. All he does everyday is abuse PDP and President Goodluck Jonathan as if that will make us win in 2015.
“Believe it or not, PDP has successfully tagged us Boko Haram and Janjaweeds, and our national publicity secretary has no response to that. All that interests him is being in charge of the entire senatorial zone because he wants the APC governorship ticket at all cost,” lamented the chieftain.
The chieftain warned that any attempt to give the party structure to Mohammed would make the crisis that trailed the party’s national convention pale into insignificance.
“APC in Kwara State is sitting on a keg of gunpowder. All that is needed to trigger an explosion is handing the party structure to expired politicians,” he declared.
