Arewa Group Lampoons EFCC Over Orosanye

by Our Reporter

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been described as a willing tool in the hands of political mischief makers and economic witch hunters by the Arewa Front for National Advancement, AFNA.

The group at a press briefing in Abuja on Sunday accused the anti-graft agency of pandering to the sinister motives of those bent on scuttling the Change Agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari with the arrest of former Head of Service, Mr. Steven Orosanye on a 24-count charge without basis.

Spokesperson of the AFNA, Mallam Isa Haruna, described the arrest and planned arraignment of Orosanye as a calculated attempt by a cabal to rubbish his legacies which are part of the policy thrust of the present government.

The AFNA spokesperson claimed that the present travails of Orosanye may not be unconnected with his far reaching recommendation for the merging of the anti-graft bodies in the country.

Haruna argued “the timing of the arrest of Mr. Orosanye is a clear indication that it was staged managed by some special interests who aware that he is being considered for the Secretary to the Government of the Federation as well as the serious thought on his recommendation for the pruning down of the civil service to make it more manageable and in tune with today’s economic realities.”

He wondered why a man that is alleged to be ‘deeply corrupt’ would come up with far reaching measures and reforms for the civil service, warning the EFCC and other anti-graft agencies not to allow themselves become willing tools in the hands of some few misguided powerful elements.

According to the group, “Orosanye has demonstrated severally his deep patriotism for the country by undertaking tasks entrusted to him with great zeal and professionalism, cautioning that “Nigeria should not be seen as making a mockery of those who have toiled for its progress and development.”

The group’s spokesperson said as detribalized Nigerians, they would mobilize to court and expressed the hope that the former Head of Service would be found innocent of the ridiculous charge against him.
