UK to assist Nigeria track stolen oil, assets

The United Kingdom (UK) is to assist Nigeria to keep track of the
number of ships involved in illegal bunkering or lifting oil out of
the country.

The new British High Commissioner in Nigeria, Paul Arkwright said this
while speaking with journalists after meeting with the Minister of
State for Foreign Affairs, Kadijah Bukar Abba Ibrahim.

Mr. Arkwright said his country was also looking at the prospect of
returning stolen assets to Nigeria.

The High Commissioner said that the UK was looking at how to cooperate
with Nigerian government by bringing Lloyd’s of London to see how they
can cooperate to curb stealing of crude oil in the country.

The envoy made the assertion after the minister had notified them of
the key areas of importance to Mr. President to include curbing
corruption, insecurity and to revive the economy.

Those in the UK delegation were:  deputy National security Adviser,
Mr. Gwyn Jenkins, Foreign and commonwealth office, Africa Director,
Mr. Neil Wigan and the Civilian Head of International policy and
planning, Ministry of Defence, Mr. David Hagan-Hern.
