The Elders of Thoughts and Leaders of All Progressives Congress, APC, in
Zamfara State have been urged to warn the senator representing Zamfara
Central, Kabiru Marafa, over his undistinguished commentary and continued
attack against the leadership of the Senate by the Progressives Northern
Coalition (PNC) .
In a press statement issued by its Coordinator, Madam Yusuf Garba, PNC
said, “the continued attack against the Senate Leadership has the potency
to heat up the polity, cause avoidable crises in the Senate and ignite
political instability in the country.
The group wondered if Senator Marafa was elected to the Senate to
constitute himself as a national embarrassment, urging the people of
Zamfara Central senatorial district to demand for dividends of
representation from Senator Marafa instead of the shame and opprobrium
being hurled on the them through undistinguished commentary of the
senator.
The group said since the inauguration of the 8th Senate, the Senate
President, Bukola Saraki has shown exemplary leadership, maintained unity
and laid a solid foundation for a transparent and people-oriented
parliament.
PNC continued, “the Senate President protected the interest of the APC and
the nation while handling the issue of the ministerial screening exercise
which helped in no small measure to douse the tension that initially
accompanied the process. We also welcome the stated commitment of the
Senate President that the 2016 budget will be approved by the National
Assembly within a record short time.”
“What else does Senator Marafa wants? Is Senator Marafa pursuing
national interest or personal agenda? His reckless verbal attacks is
evidently fuelled by his personal ambition. Therefore, Nigerians should
not take him seriously.
On the trial of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki at the Code of Conduct
Tribunal (CCT), the group said, “we hold tenaciously that Senator Kabiru
Marafa and other members of the Senate Unity Forum (SUF) should allow due
process to take place taking into consideration the statement credited to
the Senate President that he will prove his innocence in court”.
