Governor Tambuwal – A New Era

Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal is a young and energetic man that has
focus to transform Sokoto State to key into the stream of modern age. His
exposure as Speaker of the House of Representatives is a huge
administrative and political capabilities that now equip him to envision
a more dynamic economic vibrant Sokoto State. Governor Tambuwal inherits
culture of humungous administrative capacity of the Seat of the
Caliphate. Sokoto bequeathed to the nation a system of Indirect Rule. It
was a system deduced from well grounded education system as transmitted
by Sheikh Shehu Usmanu Dan Fodiyo, the founder of Sokoto Caliphate.
On assumption of office Governor Tambuwal took education as a top
priority. As a young man that mixed up with the rest of citizens of this
country at the national level he is poised to ensure that as Sokoto was
harbinger of Islamic education it must also beam the light of modern
education to its citizens to compete favourably with other states. He
declared state of emergency in education. To demonstrate sincerity of
purpose education is allocated N34,458,791,875.00 (27.82%) in the first
annual budget of the administration. Implementation of the education
revolves on the shoulders of three ministries: Higher Education, Basic
Education and Science and Technical Education. These ministries are
headed by seasoned administrators and an academic. It envisaged that with
concerted efforts to expand infrastructure plus equipment and provide
motivational dynamics to boost teaching and learning through enrolment of
both  boys and girls which shall increase appreciably every year.
Governor Tambuwal has also closely identified with the plight of Sokoto
State indigenes studying in various tertiary institutions outside the
country. Recently our amiable Governor authorized release of close to N1
billion to settle tuition fees of tertiary education students from the
state. This is aimed at encouraging students to concentrate in their
studies.
The administration of Governor Tambuwal in its employment drive is now
positioned to provide means to absorb the emerging human resource to
contribute to the growth of Sokoto economy. His Excellency, Rt Hon. Aminu
Waziri Tambuwal is now reaching out to industrialists to invest to tap
natural resources abundant in the State. Through this means the economy
shall grow through multiplier effect to employ the youth, and also
contribute to the growth of the national economy. Recently the
administration signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ericson
Nigeria Limited to establish tractor assembly and tomato processing
industries in the State. It is a good step towards boosting the economy
towards more private sector-driven. More of such efforts shall indeed
open up the economy of the state and deepen its internal revenue
generation capacity.
A secure environment guarantees economic and social growth. Conscious of
this fact Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal’s administration descended
heavily against the violent prone activities of the youth that
constituted nuisance and scare to potential investors. Indeed, the stern
effrontery of the administration has doused any palpable tension usually
associated with youth violent activities. Sokoto has once again reclaimed
its known image of peaceful town and religious beam to all conscionable
persons. The youth must be engaged positively to make them self-reliant.
The poverty reduction policy of the administration is youth centred.
Government has articulated comprehensive program of skills acquisition
and well packaged settlement strategies that shall empower the youth to
self-reliance. The education policy of the administration is targeted at
the youth. If the youth are driven into acquisition of adequate education
and subsequent well paying employment violent activities shall definitely
become less attractive. The administration is set to sustain responsible
citizens among the youth.
Much of the diseases prevalent in the society are air borne. Filthy
environment contaminates the air which becomes effective and fast means
of disease circulation. Governor Tambuwal within a few weeks of
assumption of office after personally driven round some parts of Sokoto
metropolitan observed the dirty nature of the town due to rapid expansion
which has created satellite areas and therefore refuse evacuation
management poses some daunting task. His Excellency quickly stepped in to
provide every needed support to empower Sokoto Environmental Protection
Agency (SEPA) under Ministry of Environment to clean up the entire city
on daily basis. Citizens appreciate the tremendous improvement in the
hygienic status of Sokoto that it shall soon regain its glory of neatest
state in the country. This effort shall supplement substantially
management of the health sector through minimal disease outbreak in the
state. It is envisaged that the exercise shall soon reach other urban and
suburban centres of the state.
Governor Tambuwal has sustained payment of salaries regularly to the
civil servants in the state. Recently, Governor Tambuwal released N2.6
billion to settle entitlements of pensioners in the state. It was
symbolic motivation to civil servants for greater commitment to the
service of Sokoto State.  A well motivated workforce steps up
productivity. Governor Tambuwal is set to exploit this strategy maximally
in the interest of the state. The administration of Governor Tambuwal is
committed to serve Sokoto people with the spirit of modern dynamics and
in tandem with the emancipation strategy of APC.
