Kano State governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has said that his
administration will soon commercialise the state justice system as part of
its resolve to increase internally revenue generation (IGR).
Responding to the questions from newsmen during a dinner at Government
House, Kano, the governor disclosed that his administration would look
into the finance aspect of the justice system with a view to increasing
IGR.
Governor Ganduje was specific about the percentage paid to courts in
financial related cases, which the disparity between Shariah courts and
High Courts, was huge and that the state government earned little compared
to high courts.
On cattle rustling, he said Zamfara, Katsina and Bauchi states contacted
Kano State government on sharing strategies in dealing with cattle
rustling, saying cattle rustling formed part of North-West Governors Forum
agenda.
He further said the state had stockpiled almost 30 stores with fertiliser
produced by the State owned company, KASCO.
The state government registered substantive farmers associations for
onward distribution to farmers to avoid the fertiliser been at the mercy
of the marketers,” he added.
According to him the state owned fertiliser production company, KASCO was
registered by the federal government among companies to produce fertiliser
for distribution across 36 states.
Governor Ganduje noted that the state internally revenue generation was
still at the formative stage.
He said the consultant hired by the state government had employed the
services of 500 people to assist in their job.
Ganduje stated that the consulting firms are not on the payroll of the
government, but on commission depending on what they could generate.
On the justice system, he decried that the problem with the congestion in
the prison in the state are either under equipped prison service, lost of
case files and unnecessary transfer of prosecutors without recourse to
what would be the consequences of it.
Umar disclosed that the state own radio and television are going to be
digital, starting with the radio Kano this year.
