Abdussamad Dasuki, chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on
Navy, has reiterated the commitment of the green chamber to supporting the
Nigerian Navy in its bid to improve operations and upgrade its system in
line with recent developments. He made this known through his social media
accounts, after he returned from a trip to China over the weekend.
He was part of a Nigerian delegation consisting of a representative of the
Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), officials from the Ministry of Defense, and the
chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy, among others, which visited China
last week to take delivery of a new vessel, which has been described as a
“much needed addition to the Naval fleet”.
The vessel, named the NNS Unity, is expected to arrive in Nigeria in
October, 2016, and is an addition to the NN Centenary, which was delivered
in November 2014.
“There have been concerted efforts towards improving defense and
strengthening our various security agencies, and it is indeed pleasing to
know that the Nigerian Navy has not been left out. Being present at the
departure ceremony was a testament to our work in the Committee with
respect to supporting the Nigerian Navy to strengthen and improve
operations, and we will continue to play our role in ensuring that the Navy
meets current global standards. This is particularly important at the
moment because the Navy has a large role to play in securing the peace,
wealth and prosperity of our country”, Dasuki said. He represents
Kebbe/Tambuwal federal constituency of Sokoto state in the House of
Representatives.
