A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress ( APC), Dr Abdulrahman Usman has described Senate President Bukola Saraki as the only Senate president in history to insulate the upper chamber from the influence of Aso Rock.
According to him, since 1999 all the Senate leaders have been pawns on the chessboard of the president.
Usman, in statement in Abuja on Saturday maintained that Saraki with his dexterity has made he senate relevant again.
He said his ‘ stubbornness’ and refusal to do the bidding of the presidency has put him in the cross hairs and made him a target.
Usman took apart a statement by one of his party’s National ex officio members, Yekini Nabena who said Saraki has lost legitimacy.
He said ” Nabena is one man who has little to show he is grateful he is ex officio so willing to do the dirty job for the presidency including attack on Saraki ”
Saraki is the only senate president in history who has remained independent of the presidency. Look at the budget scandal, Saraki had no fear he spoke out concerning the Buhari budget inconsistencies, lies , fake, padded budget ”
” we must not forget how Saraki became senate president. We recall all the drama and back room tactics of the presidency to ensure he was stopped but the man won overwhelmingly. ”
On the issue of alleged ties of Saraki to some offshore businesses and his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Usman said ” we all know where all those are coming from, why have they not convicted him. Have we forgotten the Buhari certificate scandal and how many senior advocates defended him instead of just produce it? They want to rubbish Saraki but it has failed because he is steadfast “
