The Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders (CACOL) has warned the federal government against dumping the report of the Petroleum Special Task force headed by the former Chairman of EFCC, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
Speaking on behalf of the coalition, its Executive Chairman, Debo Adeniran, noted that the melodrama that played out between Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the chairman of the Task force, and Steve Oronsaye, the deputy chairman with Bon Oti a member of the Task force is a pointer to what might become the fate of the report.
“For those who are familiar with the tactics employed by the cabals in this present government, they would be able to predict what might befall this Ribadu’s report unless the masses speak out. The level of corruption in our oil industry is bizarre. It is rather unfortunate that some government officials could be so barefaced and brazen. It is so shameful that Steve Oronsaye could speak against the report just to discredit it.
Although, we are not totally surprised, he (Oronsaye) has actually called for the scrapping of the anti-graft agencies in order to reduce the cost of governance. The chicken has now come home to roost. I knew then that the man was up to something to have called for the heads of the anti-graft agencies just to reduce FG’s overheads whereas other nations of the world that are really committed to combating grafts in their societies, are empowering their anti-graft agencies.
When Nuhu Ribadu was brought on board in February, we knew the federal government just used that to pacify the angry masses. We knew President Jonathan was not and is not ready to expose those perpetrating and perpetuating corruption in his government. He benefited from the proceeds too, directly or indirectly. We just hope this report is not joining its colleagues on the shelves,” Adeniran averred.
CACOL however warned the FG against thrashing the report like its predecessors and called for the implementation of its recommendations to rid our oil sector of its rot.
