Okupe joins Accord Party?

by Our Reporter

There are indications that a former presidential spokesman, Dr Doyin Okupe may have pitched his tent with the Accord Party.

Last week Okupe dumped the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) citing sundry reasons for his exit.

When he left he was silent on where his boat will berth next

He had said in a statement ” Certainly, a party like my former party, PDP has no future in the evolving Nigerian political circus.
“This political confusion has percolated to the states, Ogun State being one of the worst hit.
The leadership of the party has been irredeemably fictionalised for nearly a decade. Presently, it is divided broadly into two major factions. One headed by Hon Ladi Adebutu and the other by Senator Buruji Kashamu. Unfortunately, I do not fit into either group. Hence it becomes extremely difficult for me to operate as a politician under the PDP umbrella in the state. Yet, all politics is local.”

Pointblanknews.com sources hinted that the medical doctor held meetings with bigwigs of the Accord party at the weekend which included a former Oyo state Governor and party bigwig, Rasheed Ladoja, chairmen and secretaries.

Contacted by telephone, Okupe  told Pointblankews.com that he would make a formal statement on Tuesday in Abuja on his next move. He, however, lauded the leadership of the Accord Party including Ladoja.

Accord Party is not without its internal schism. A few days ago, Oyo State chapter of

Accord  debunked claims that  the party is part of a  coalition towards the 2019 elections in the  state, saying it has also not adopted or endorsed any of the governorship aspirants.
A statement by Accord’s publicity secretary, Akeem Olatunji,  described as a sham a report credited to one Chief Sunday Ogunlade of the G19 group, stating that agreement had been reached by a coalition of opposition to field a governorship candidate from the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Accord, who described the existence of a coalition spearheaded by the G19 as unfounded and baseless, said neither its leaders nor members participated in “any kangaroo meeting to share positions among political parties.”
“Accord has said emphatically that campaign and scheming for 2019 election should be put on hold till 2018. We have also enjoined our members with an ambition to concentrate their energy on building and making the party stronger for 2019 elections.
