Benue Assembly Urges Govt To Establish Fire Service Stations In Zones

by Our Reporter

The Benue House of Assembly on Thursday directed the state government to establish  functional fire service stations in its three senatorial zones.

This followed a motion by Mr Baba Odeh of Otukpo/Akpa constituency which urged the government to embark on the project to save lives and property.

Odeh said the stations should be located in Gboko, Katsina-Ala and Otukpo local government areas.

He said the motion was necessary because the main station located in Makurdi with two sub-stations were inadequate to cater for the state.

He said that one of the sub-stations was in the Benue Government House and the other at the Makurdi Modern Market, adding that on July 26, the assembly had passed a resolution that a sub-station should be established at the North-Bank in Makurdi.

Odeh stressed the need for government to extend efficient and effective fire services to all the senatorial zones to reflect the geo-political diversity of the state.

He urged government to make provision for the proposed stations in the 2013 Appropriation Bill.

The motion was seconded by Mr David Iorhemba, the immediate past speaker of the assembly.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the motion was unanimously adopted while Speaker Terhile Ayua called on the government to comply with it. (NAN)
