The Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly, Mr Otelemaba Amachree on Wednesday asked commissioners in the state to stop turning down invitations by the assembly to appear before it.
The speaker made the remark following a complaint by the Chairman, Committee on Environment; Mrs. Victoria Nyeche that the Commissioner for Environment Mr Yema Weli, refused to appear before the assembly upon invitation by the legislature.
“Let me use this medium to warn the Commissioner for Environment and other Commissioners that we will not tolerate disobedience to the House, any more,” he said.
In her remarks, Nyeche urged the assembly to direct the Ministry of Environment to conduct post-impact studies of the flooding in the state.
Nyeche called on the House to direct the Commissioner for Environment to appear before the House to explain what the Ministry did to alleviate the sufferings of flood victims.
She also called on the house to direct the Ministry of Water Resources to liaise with councils to provide treatment plants to rehabilitate water facilities in the state.
The lawmaker also urged the House to direct the Ministry of Health to provide medical facilities to camps which had no medical support.
