Double Registration: Disqualify, bar Gov Bello for 10 years, Akpoti tells court

The Social Democratic Party’s candidate in the November 21 Kogi State Governorship election, Natasha Hadiza Akpoti, has asked a Federal High Court in Abuja to disqualify Kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello, for alleged double registration.

Akpoti also prayed the court to bar Bello from contesting the November and for the next ten years.

Joined in the suit as defendants are the INEC and the All Progressive Congress ( APC).

In the suit filed on her half by a team of attorneys led by Mike Ozekhome, SAN, the plaintiff sought the following reliefs.

1. Declaration that Bello by virtue of the double registration violated the provision of Section 24 (E) of the Electoral Act of 2010

2. That he is liable to be disqualified and or barred from contesting, participating and or voting in the November governorship on account of his gross violation of the aforementioned section .

3. An order disqualifying and or barring or ordering the 2nd defendant from contesting the forthcoming election or any political office for the next years.

Akpoti was the SDP’s senatorial candidate who contested the victory of APC’s Yakubu Oseni at the Tribunal and lost.
